Minecraft: PE 1.21.70.23 – Sheep, Cartographer, Trades

Minecraft BE 1.21.70.23 brings several exciting changes, introduces biome based sheep colors, reworked villager trades, a more useful wandering trader, and the return of bundles in chests.

Sheep colors now depend on biome

Sheep colors will now match the biome they naturally spawn in, adding more diversity to environment.

Cold biomes

Black sheep are most common, with light gray, light blue, and cyan appearing as uncommon colors. Pink sheep can also spawn, though very rarely.

Warm biomes

Brown is the most common, with gray, yellow, orange, and red as uncommon variants, plus a rare pink spawn.

Temperate biomes (like plains)

White sheep remain dominant, with black, gray, light gray, and brown appearing occasionally, and a rare chance for pink sheep.

Although some biome-to-sheep color assignments might seem inconsistent (like brown sheep in sandy biomes, where sheep don’t normally spawn), this change adds a fresh layer of variety to MCPE 1.21.

New cartographer maps & villager trade rebalancing

  • Cartographers now offer seven different maps in MCBE helping players locate a variety of structures and biomes. The biomebased trading system means:
  • Swamp and jungle villages now have their own maps.
  • Each cartographer offers random trades at different levels (novice to master).
  • The new map system makes it easier to locate different biomes through trading.

1.21.70.23 update is part of a larger effort to rebalance villager trading mechanics, making exploration more rewarding.

Wandering trader changes

The wandering trader in Minecraft PE 1.21.70.23 received some major improvements:

  1. Lowered trade prices making it more viable to trade.
  2. Increased trade variety offering a larger selection of goods.
  3. Players can now sell items like hay bales to obtain emeralds.
  4. New tradeable items – tall dry grass has been officially added to Minecraft 1.21.70.23, and mentions of firefly bushes and potions of invisibility were in the changelog (though they may not be implemented yet).

This makes the wandering trader much more useful, providing better deals and easier access to valuable resources.

Bundles now found in village chests

Bundles, which help manage inventory by storing multiple small items in a single slot, now have a 33% chance of appearing in village chests. This is a great quality of life addition that makes it easier to organize loot while exploring villages.

Firefly bush ambient sounds in 1.21.70.23

Firefly bushes now have ambient sounds, enhancing immersion. While this feature was first introduced in java snapshots, it has now made its way to bedrock. The sound changes are subtle, but they add to the atmospheric experience.
