Minecraft Bedrock Edition 1.22 (or 1.21) – Mounts of Mayhem
After all the segments, Agnes returned to introduce the upcoming game drop called Mounts of Mayhem, which belongs either to version 1.21 or 1.22. This drop will most likely be the first in Minecraft: Bedrock 1.22, and below are all its features as revealed by the developers.
New Mob: Nautilus
The first reveal was the new mob – the Nautilus. A day before the showcase, teasers hinted at a sea theme, including a screenshot of a player killed underwater. Many thought it would be a return of an old mob vote creature, but no – it’s the real Nautilus.
Behavior and Abilities of Nautilus
The Nautilus is neutral with seven hearts of health. In Mounts of Mayhem it spawns somewhere in ocean biomes, though details weren’t given. You can tame it with pufferfish, and once tamed, it will follow you. They can also be bred with fish or a bucket of fish.
After taming, you can ride them using a standard saddle. Nautilus swims faster than the player and grants a unique effect called Nautilus Breath, which pauses the air bar while mounted. Nautilus can also dash underwater, and when used near the surface, it leaps like a dolphin before diving again. Baby Nautilus cannot be tamed or ridden, but pufferfish speed up their growth.
Nautilus Armor
Developers added armor for the Nautilus to Minecraft 1.22: copper, iron, gold, diamond, and even netherite.
Zombie Nautilus
This is notable since horses still don’t have netherite armor. Why does Nautilus need protection? Because of a new mob – the Zombie Nautilus. This neutral undead appears in oceans and can be ridden by drowned. Its glowing eyes give it an eerie look. More details like health, attacks, or drops remain unknown.
Zombie Horse
Another surprise is the return of the zombie horse. Originally planned back in 2013, it finally joins survival after 12 years. You’ll find it in plains and savannas ridden by zombies holding a new weapon – the spear.
New Weapon: Spear
The spear is a melee weapon with seven variants: wood, stone, copper, iron, gold, diamond, and netherite. Crafting requires two sticks and one material. It has two special attacks besides normal hits:
- Cross Strike – triggered with right-click, deals damage based on material, then has a short cooldown.
- Charged Attack – holding attack lowers the spear for a heavy strike. Damage depends on movement speed and can knock riders off their mounts. Holding too long causes shaking, reducing the knock-off effect but still dealing full damage. Higher-tier spears charge faster but balance with quicker cooldowns.

Mounts of Mayhem Minecraft Drop
The drop is called Mounts of Mayhem. It might be version 1.22 or 1.21.10, but many hope it’s the full 1.22.
On the official site, an article included a hidden message: each paragraph started with bolded letters spelling reading rocks. Whether it’s a joke or a hint remains unclear.
Throughout the showcase, all gameplay used the Vibrant Visuals graphics option. It looked almost like Java Edition, but it’s Bedrock 1.22. There was no confirmation if Vibrant Visuals will arrive with this drop, so it might release later.
The first snapshot or preview is expected around October 7, after the Copper Age update launches on September 30.
This drop is unusual because it adds no blocks – only mobs, mounts, and weapons. Leaks hinted at both the Nautilus and spear, and indeed both are included. Unfortunately, leaks spoiled details just hours before the event.
Overall, the drop of 1.22 feels small, and many hope Mojang adds more. There are concerns that large updates might be replaced by smaller drops forever, but time will tell.
