Minecraft: Bedrock 1.22 – Early Details

We have waited 13 long years for Minecraft Bedrock 1.22 to officially introduce the zombie horse variant into survival mode. The wait is finally over. Previously, this was only accessible via creative and commands.

Copper Age Drop release

Minecraft’s next update, known as the Copper Age drop or the Fall Drop, is officially releasing on Tuesday, September 30th, 2025. This update is introducing a past mob vote feature, the Copper Golem. There will also be copper chests, copper torches, copper lanterns, copper chains, oxidation on lightning rods, and most importantly, copper armor and tools.

Nautilus

The biggest announcement is a brand new aquatic mob: the Nautilus. It loves puffer fish, including those inside a bucket. Developers never fully explained where it spawns, but it was shown inside coral reefs and deep cold ocean biomes. Likely, wherever puffer fish are found.

The Nautilus can be fed, tamed, and even ridden using a saddle. While riding, players gain the “Breath of the Nautilus” effect, which prevents the air bar from going down, though it does not refill it. The Nautilus cannot survive on land. There is also a baby version, and players can breed them. They can dash underwater with a burst effect.

The Nautilus can wear armor-copper, iron, gold, diamond, and netherite. A zombified version exists as well, often found with drowned mobs. It is neutral but may carry tridents when drowned are riding it.

Spears in 1.22

Another major addition of Bedrock Edition 1.22 is a new weapon: spears. The spear can jab or perform a charge attack, allowing jousting. Its damage scales with velocity: the faster you move, the more damage it deals. Spears can be crafted in copper, iron, gold, diamond, and netherite tiers. Zombies can also wield them, and in some cases, a zombie on a zombie horse may hold a spear.

The zombie horse itself is also being introduced as a survival mob. Players hope it will have unique traits, such as feeding on rotten flesh for speed boosts at night.

Altogether, Minecraft Bedrock 1.22 brings exciting changes: a rideable and breedable Nautilus with armor and effects, the long-awaited zombie horse, and new spear combat mechanics that expand gameplay possibilities.
