Minecraft: Bedrock Edition 1.21 is launching a new beta and preview cycle.

Nautilus – a new mob

A neutral aquatic mob in Minecraft 1.21.130.20, it attacks with a lunge if provoked. It performs a “headbutt.” It appears in all ocean biomes. It can be tamed with a pufferfish or a bucket. A tamed Nautilus can be saddled. It has a lunge ability similar to a camel – the jump button. Sometimes it attacks sea anemones within reach. It adds the “Nautilus Breath” effect to players on its back.

Movement restriction

Without a saddle – 32 blocks, with a saddle – 16 blocks, but on land it takes damage from suffocation. There is a new spawn egg. It is difficult to transport from the ocean to the base. It cannot be placed in a bucket. When killed, it does not drop anything, but on Java there is a small chance of getting a Nautilus Shell.

It can be tamed with a regular pufferfish. A tamed Nautilus allows you to jump and use the “Nautilus Breath” effect, but the bubbles are not restored. Dolphins love them. You can jump high, especially with the new spear – a great combination.

You can breed Nautilus, and a baby will appear. You cannot use a bucket. The new mob will make exploring the oceans more fun.

Zombie Nautilus

There is also a zombie Nautilus: a neutral aquatic mob that attacks with a lunge. It appears with drowned who holds a trident. It is aggressive if the rider is hostile. It can be tamed with a pufferfish or a bucket. It can be saddled and has a lunge ability. The “Nautilus Breath” effect is the same. It cannot be bred. It burns in light. On Bedrock 1.21.130, it sometimes behaves aggressively for no reason – a bug.

Next is Nautilus armor: available for regular and zombie Nautilus, made of copper, gold, iron, diamonds, and netherite. Can be found in chests: lost treasures, ocean ruins, shipwrecks. Cannot be crafted.

Spears

New weapon: can be crafted from wood, stone, copper, iron, gold, diamonds, and netherite. Different materials affect speed and damage. Minimum damage range – if too close, no damage is dealt. Has two attacks: jab (fast) and charge (charged). Can be enchanted: lunge (forward movement), sharpness, etc. Works great with a horse or boat, deals heavy damage at the right speed.

Zombie horse

And the last major new feature after 13 years – the zombie horse: appears at night in plains and savannas. Appears with a hostile rider with a spear. Tamed like a normal horse, eats red mushrooms, saddle is used for riding, cannot be bred. Burns in the sun, armor protects.

Fixes and updates

  • Audio: Swimming sound no longer plays when flying underwater.
  • Biomes: Fixed an issue with chunk generation.
  • Hoppers: Short reload after piston movement, fixed a bug with duplicate bags.
  • General: Alt + F4 now closes the game correctly.
  • Graphics: Fixed critical hit particles, copper golem nose rotation.
  • Input: Fixed mouse and keyboard lag on PC.
  • Items: Gold horse armor renamed to gold.
  • Mobs: Fixed a bug with camels jerking in water; new spawn locations for needlefish; zombie horses spawn in plains and savannas.
  • UI and vanilla sounds: Critical hit now plays correctly.
  • Technical updates: Many changes for technical players.
